The story behind the Kuvasz
The Kuvasz is a Hungarian livestock guardian whose ancestors are generally believed to have arrived in the Carpathian Basin with migrating pastoral peoples, and dogs of this type have guarded flocks in the region for many centuries. Beyond herd protection, the breed acquired a notable place in Hungarian court life during the late medieval period, when it was kept as a guard and hunting companion by nobility, most famously in connection with King Matthias Corvinus. Later the breed returned largely to peasant and shepherd use. Twentieth-century warfare devastated the population, and dedicated Hungarian breeders rebuilt it from a small number of survivors. The Kuvasz is recognised by the FCI and the AKC and is kept today mainly as a working guardian and family protector, with numbers remaining modest outside Hungary.

Feeding a Kuvasz
Slow, controlled growth matters greatly in this large breed, so puppies suit a diet formulated for big-breed development and should not be over-fed. Adults do well on two measured meals with quiet rest afterward, staying athletic rather than bulky to protect hips and joints.
Watch for: No breed-specific food intolerance is recognised. As with other large deep-chested guardians, meal size, gulping and activity around feeding warrant more attention than ingredient choice. Skin issues under a heavy white coat are frequently environmental, so let a vet direct any investigation.
