ASH GROVE, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is conducting an educational event focused on fundamental deer hunting skills this month.
Scheduled for Saturday, October 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., the “Learning to Hunt: Deer Hunting Basics” program will take place at the Andy Dalton Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center.

Steve Govero, the Assistant Manager of the MDC Outdoor Education Center, is slated to lead the instruction, bringing professional expertise in wildlife management and hunter education.
Wildlife Context and Biological Significance
Deer hunting season is a critical management tool that helps maintain balanced white-tailed deer populations (Odocoileus virginianus), reducing overbrowsing impacts on native vegetation and promoting ecosystem health.
Understanding proper shot placement is important not only for hunter safety but also to ensure humane harvesting of deer, which impacts the sustainability of local populations.
Registration and Additional Information
The program is free and open to participants of all ages, though prior registration is required to attend.
Interested individuals can find more information and register on the Missouri Department of Conservation’s official website.
