I am an evolutionary biologist and I work at the Uiversity of Siegen in Germany. I currently study a species of bird known as the swift. I am studying several areas of swift biology, including:

  • Host-Parasite interactions: How does parasitism affect swift life history strategies?
  • Nestling development: What factors influence nestling growth?
  • Sexual selection: What factors are of importance in mate choice decisions in the swift?
  • Facultative heterothermy: Swifts enter a form of torpor in cold conditions. What physiological processes occur during this process?

I am involved with student teaching in the Biology department at the University of Siegen. Courses and seminars I have or continue to assist in include; practical courses in general biology, Bi(o)lingual language/science teaching seminars, and lectures in Inquiry-based science teaching.
