Project: Swift biology and ecology.
I study the factors affecting nestling swift growth. What effect does parasitism, weather, and parental care have on nestling growth rates?

Project: Inquiry-based Science Teaching
Position: Research and teaching assistant.
Where: The University of Siegen, Germany.
When: 2005-2007.

Project: Private environmental consultancy.
I worked on various tasks including conference organisation, habitat surveying, environmental impact surveying.
Position: Assistant Ecologist.
Where: A private environmental consultancy company. Sheffield, England.
When: 2003.

Project: Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), Hanta virus, and Lyme disease transmission in wild mice populations.
The project involved catching Yellow-necked mice, taking blood from them and recording number of parasites on them.
Position: Field Research Assistant.
Where: Trentino, Italy.
When: 2002.

Project: The effect of tourism of the behaviour of Alpine Chamois.
This project involved the radio-tracking of Wild Chamois in the Berner Oberland. The data was analysed in the GIS program Arcview.
Position: Field Research Assistant.
Where: Bern University, Switzerland.
When: 2000-2002.

  • Practical conservation work for a number of British charities and conservation organisations, including BCTV, 3-valley project, etc. I have cleared wasteland, planted trees, laid hedges, built styles and fences...

Final Project: Mathematical modelling of the flight abilities of Archeopteryx, an extinct species of early bird.

 

Other Work

I can also do proper work. I financed my studies by delivering free newspapers and leaflets for two days every week for over 5 years. I am a dab hand at farm and horticultural work, and have looked after various types of livestock. I have also done factory work. I spent time at a fork lift truck training centre.
